At the height of World War II, America needed a vast number of ships built – as quickly as possible. The Hingham Shipyard workers built and launched 227 war ships from this site in just three and a half years – surpassing the Navy’s expectations and literally helping to change the course of world history.
Hingham Shipyard built 100 Destroyer Escort ships that guarded thousands of convoys across the Atlantic during World War II and another 127 of the Landing Ship Tanks so pivotal to helping the Allies achieve success in the D-Day invasions. |
